Amari Egadze

Amari Egadze ( Georgian ამარი ეგაძე ; * 1939 ) is a former Soviet wrestler from Georgia . He was runner-up in the bantamweight division in 1965 .

Career

Egadze began wrestling as a teenager, and after his first national successes was delegated to the wrestling center in Tbilisi . There he developed into an excellent wrestler in the Greco-Roman style. In 1960 he managed to get 3rd place for the first time among the top three winners at the Soviet bantamweight championship. Only world champion Oleg Karavaev and Olympic champion Boris Gurevich ended up ahead of him. There were then several starts in international competitions and, after he had become Soviet champion in 1962, his use at the World Cup in Toledo / USA . There he won four fights, but was defeated in the decisive battle by the Japanese Masamitsu Ichiguchi and came in 2nd place.

In the next few years he was no longer able to place himself in the front line of the national championships in the extremely strong competition in the Soviet Union and therefore did not make any further international appearances for the time being. In 1965, however, he again qualified for the World Championships in Tampere / Finland . There Amari disappointed, however, because he lost his first two fights against Raimo Taskinen from Finland and Fritz Stange from the Federal Republic of Germany and was eliminated after the 2nd round. Since the Soviet wrestling federation in Armais Sajadow , Rustem Kasakow , Sergei Rybalko , Wladlen Trostjanski and Iwan Kotschergin had a number of world-class wrestlers in the bantamweight class available, Amari Egadze did not come to any further appearances at international championships.
