Armais Sayadov
Armais Sayadov ( Russian Армаис Ваганович Саядов Armais Waganowitsch Sajadow ; born October 18, 1937 in Baku ) is a former Soviet - Azerbaijani wrestler . He was world champion in flyweight in 1961.
Career
Armais Sayadov began in 1950 in Baku with the rings . He developed into an outstanding wrestler in the Greco-Roman style. As a member of the security forces, he belonged to the sports organization "Dynamo". In 1957 he started at the Soviet championship in Greco-Roman style and was runner-up in the flyweight division behind Sergei Rybalko and ahead of Georgi Akonin. In 1959 he then won his first Soviet flyweight championship before Nikolai Solowjow and Sergei Rybalko. For a start at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome , he could not qualify because he was only third winner at the 1960 Soviet championships behind Ivan Kochergin and Nail Garaew .
In 1961 he finally managed to win the right to start the World Cup in Yokohama . There he was able to convince and become world champion with six wins.
In the following years Armais stagnated. Only in 1964 did he draw attention to himself again by winning the large "Ivan Poddubny" flyweight tournament in Moscow and was nominated for the Olympic Games in Tokyo . In Tokyo, Armais was disappointing, because he only won one fight there and ended up in 12th place, which is indisputable for him.
After 1964 he switched to bantamweight and won again in 1965 at the "Iwan-Poddubny" tournament in bantamweight, ahead of Amari Egadze and Sergei Rybalko. Nevertheless, Amari Egadse was sent to the 1965 World Cup. Armais was only used again at the European Championships in Essen in 1966 . In Essen he showed strong performances and won his first six fights. It was not until the final that he lost to the German champion Fritz Stange , who was in top form this year, and became vice European champion.
In 1967 Armais won the "Iwan-Poddubny" tournament for the third time, but was no longer used in any international championships.
