The Amato or Lamato (ancient Lametos ) is a river in the province of Catanzaro in Calabria , Italy .
The river arises from the confluence of the source streams Sabettella and Occhiorosso in the Sila Piccola near the Colle Santa Maria ( 1795 m ) near Soveria Manelli. It initially runs in a south-easterly direction and flows through the Piana di Santa Margherita, with the Cosenza – Catanzaro railway following the Ferrovie della Calabria at times , at a short distance from the Corace River , which it meets at the Serrastretta-Carlópoli railway station to less than approaching one kilometer. Then it turns in a large arc to the west; here the state road 280 from Catanzaro to Lamezia Terme follows its course.
