history
The new day was founded in 1946 by Anton Döhler and Victor von Gostomski. In Amberg the newspaper appears under the title Amberger Zeitung , in Sulzbach-Rosenberg under the title Sulzbach-Rosenberger Zeitung .
The Amberger Zeitung can look back on a long journalistic tradition . Founded on July 1, 1868 as Amberger Volkszeitung by the Pustet brothers in Regensburg, it has accompanied Amberg's political and social life ever since. The time of National Socialism brought the Amberger Volkszeitung to the NS-Phönix-Verlag in 1936, the purchase of the Sulzbach-Rosenberger Zeitung on January 1, 1939 and both of them jointly renamed the Amberg-Sulzbacher Zeitung . On October 1, 1948, Der Neue Tag took over the Amberger Zeitung and the Sulzbach-Rosenberger Zeitung .

Press advice and notice
In 2008, the German Press Council reprimanded the newspaper for violating the press code . She had a freelance journalist, who was running for the office of mayor, report on himself and his election campaign. According to the Press Council, the newspaper thus violated the requirement to separate journalistic and other activities. Such a practice would jeopardize the credibility of the press.
In its last meeting before the Bavarian state elections in 2018, the German Press Council once again recognized a violation of the requirement to separate journalistic and other activities by the newspaper. She had a freelance worker who previously worked for many years as a full-time mayor and city councilor and is still an active member of the local branch of his party there, for many months on the activities of his own party in the region, including his own local branch, as also report on various city and municipal council meetings in this region. In its meeting on September 20, 2018, the press council gave the editors a notice about this.
