Amēl-Marduk
Amēl-Marduk ( lu- d amar.ud ; also Nabû-šuma-ukîn ; † 560 BC ) was the son and successor of King Nebuchadnezzar II from 562 BC. BC to 560 BC Chr. Babylonian king. Before that he changed as Nabû-šuma-ukîn in the month of Ululu of the year 566 BC. His name on Amēl-Marduk (man of Marduk ) .
Reign
The first order as king comes from his accession year (October 8, 562 BC); 561 BC Began his first year of reign. His last pronouncement dates from his second year of reign (August 7, 560 BC). Otherwise little is known about him. A leap month in the Babylonian calendar is not documented during his reign. After almost two years of reign, he was killed by his brother-in-law Nergal-šarra-uṣur , who succeeded him on the throne.
In the Bible he is under the name "Ewil-Merodach" ( Hebrew אֱוִיל מְרֹדַךְ 'äwîl mərodakh ) known. There is described that Amel-Marduk in his accession year on 27 Addaru (1.-2 April 561st v. Chr.) King Jehoiachin of Judah in the 37th year since its by Babylon led deportation pardoned and it, now about 55 Turned old, created an honorable position at court ( 2 Kings 25.27 EU ).
