Occurrence
The distribution area of the amethyst fescue extends from Central and Southeastern Europe to northeastern Turkey. It thrives on moderately dry, base-rich, mild to moderately acidic, humus-rich, often clayey stone or gravel soils in sunny pine steppe forests, in pine bushes, on the edges of forests and in gravel floodplains. In Central Europe it is a character species of the Erico-Pinion association, but also occurs in associations of the Mesobromion or Caricion ferrugineae associations.
use
The amethyst fescue is rarely used as an ornamental plant for heather gardens.
