Ammonia Avenue is one of the most commercially successful albums by the British band The Alan Parsons Project and was released on February 7, 1984. Ammonia Avenue was originally planned in the form of a double album, with the material for Vulture Culture being the second LP.

The first single was Don't Answer Me . Prime Time , the second release, made it into the top 40 in the US. Since the Last Goodbye and You Don't Believe were also smaller hits. Music videos were produced for Don't Answer Me and Prime Time in 1984, the former with animations by Michael William Kaluta . Don't Answer Me was also the first music video ever to be animated throughout.

The title Ammonia Avenue was inspired by Eric Woolfson's visit to Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) in Billingham , where the first thing he saw wasn't people or trees, but a road with miles of pipes and a sign saying ammonia Avenue was read. The album puts its conceptual emphasis on the possible misunderstandings of industrial-scientific developments from the point of view of the general population as well as on the lack of understanding that this receives from the scientific side.

reception

"[K] old and dead like an igloo fish fingers, well constructed and superficial like a commercial," wrote Hermann Haring in the Musikexpress . The lack of warmth and liveliness in the songs reminded him of an "IBM large computer" and scored only two (out of a possible six) points.
