backgrounds

No motives for the death of the perpetrator are known. The perpetrator owned the firearm legally and had never been seen violent. According to unconfirmed media reports, the perpetrator was in psychotherapeutic treatment for unknown reasons .

Ljubiša Bogdanović (* 1953 in Velika Ivanča; † April 11, 2013 in Belgrade ) was a 60-year-old Serbian war veteran from the Croatian War , where he fought for four and a half months. His father committed suicide when Ljubiša Bogdanović was a child. He and his brother were then taken to see their grandfather Obrad, who is said to have raised the children very strictly and punished them for any small mistake. He had had a gun license since 1981. Bogdanović and his son, who was killed in the shooting, were employees of a Slovenian company until 2012. Both lost their jobs in 2012. Some neighbors described him as a "quiet contemporary" and said they knew about a violent past. They also knew of an argument with his son, as he was in a relationship with a girl whom Ljubiša Bogdanović disagreed with.

Although Bogdanović did not know if he had a mental illness, cases have been reported in his family. In addition to Bogdanović's father, who committed suicide, his uncle and cousin also suffered from a mental illness.

His wife was also unable to provide any information about the background. Ljubiša Bogdanović is said to have said immediately before the crime that there is no longer any life for her.

Reactions

Because of the rampage, the Serbian government arranged a special meeting. The Serbian government declared April 10, 2013 a day of mourning.

Police chief Veljović announced in a reaction to the act a swift amendment to the arms and ammunition law. Stricter requirements for the possession of weapons and ammunition are to be set.
