Amphoe Nong Muang Khai ( Thai อำเภอ หนอง ม่วง ไข่ , pronunciation: ʔāmpʰɤ̄ː nɔ̌ːŋ mûaŋ kʰàj ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in the Phrae Province in the northern region of Thailand .

Neighboring districts (clockwise from north): the Amphoe Song , Rong Kwang , Mueang Phrae and Long . All Amphoe belong to the Phrae Province.

The main water resources of the county are the Mae Nam Yom (Yom River) .

Nong Muang Khai is the largest contiguous rice-growing area in Thailand. The rice is grown here without the seasons, which means that some fields are harvested while others are lying fallow and others are planted with the rice saplings. The rice fields are irrigated by the Maenam Yom, which flows through the Phrae province.

Some of the water from Maenam Yom is fed into the rice fields with a sophisticated pumping system and then drained off again by opening simple wooden sluices. In contrast to many other rice fields - for example in the south of Thailand - the rice plant does not stand in stagnant water, but is instead supplied with constantly fresh water, which on the one hand contributes to an excellent harvest quality and on the other hand the spread of breeding grounds for mosquitoes , and the malaria - mosquito in derogation, as these standing for the spawning breeding water prefer.

history

Nong Muang Khai was initially set up as a subdistrict ( King Amphoe ) on April 1, 1990 by merging the Tambon Mae Kham Mi and Nong Muang Khai of the Amphoe Rong Kwang and Wangluang and Nam Rat of the Amphoe Song . On September 7, 1990, he received full amphoe status.

Attractions

Nong Muang Khai is far away from touristically developed places, but is a good starting point for multi-day excursions in the far north of Thailand, for example in the direction of Chiang Mai and the " Golden Triangle ": Laos , Myanmar , Thailand .

The small town ( Thesaban Tambon ) Nong Muang Khai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล หนอง ม่วง ไข่ ) comprises most of the Tambon Nong Muang Khai.

There are also five “Tambon Administrative Organizations” (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Administrative Organizations) for the tambon in the district that do not belong to any city.
