Amphoe Sung Men ( Thai อำเภอ สูงเม่น , pronunciation: ʔāmpʰɤ̄ː sǔːŋ mên ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) of Phrae Province in the northern region of Thailand .

geography

Neighboring districts (from southwest clockwise): the Amphoe Den Chai , Long , Mueang Phrae of the province of Phrae, and Tha Pla and Mueang Uttaradit of the province of Uttaradit .

The main waterway in Sung Men County is the Mae Nam Yom .

history

Sung Men became archaeologically interesting after the discovery of processed pebbles in Ban Don Mun, which are around 700,000 years old. Homo erectus bones from this period have not yet been discovered.

In 1903 the name of the county was Mae Phuak ( แม่ พวก ), its administration was in Ban Sung Men. In 1917 the county was renamed Sung Men from Mae Phuak.

Local administration

Sung Men ( เทศบาล ตำบล สูงเม่น ) is a small town ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district, it consists of parts of the tambon of the same name.

There are also twelve “Tambon Administrative Organizations” (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) for the tambon in the district that do not belong to any city.
