history
In the middle of the 19th century, investors from Amsterdam , the Drentsche Landontginning Maatschappij ( German Land Development Company Drente ), bought a moor area and named it the Amsterdamsche Veld after their hometown . In the first few years the area was used for hunting. The company was managed by Lodewijk Dommers, after which the Dommerskanaal was named. In 1909 the Griendtsveen peat factory bought the land. A settlement for the workers of the factory was built on the Dommerskanaal, which was named Amsterdamscheveld.

In 1985 the Griendtsveenpark was opened in Amsterdamscheveld. The facility was built on the initiative of residents, the neighborhood and interest group “de Peel” and local companies. The park is home to various animals such as sheep, chickens, deer, ponies and peacocks. The park has been managed by the Griendtsveenpark Foundation since 2013.
