history
With the Hanoverian Courts Constitution Act of November 8, 1850, which came into force on October 1, 1850, administration and justice were finally separated from each other and local courts were created as the lowest courts. So also the Otterndorf District Court. In 1973, the district of the court was expanded to include the district court Neuhaus (Oste) after the dissolution of the district court. In 1982 the area of the former East District Court, which had also been dissolved in 1973, passed from the Stade District Court to the Otterndorf District Court.
Courthouse
The court had been located since 1768, at that time still as a higher court, in a town house near the market, today's district building. In 1885 the move to the district court building, built in 1773, followed. In 1982 the court was enlarged and departments were outsourced to the former county hall. The court is still housed in the building on Am Grosse Specken .
