history

Until 1862 the administration and jurisdiction were in the area of responsibility of the regional courts at that time (see Regional Court Sonthofen ), from 1879 official district courts, Immenstadt and Sonthofen. From 1862 the district administration was in the district office in Sonthofen. Both courts had now become independent institutions.

The main building in which the court is located today was completed and moved into in 1912. Before that it was housed in Sonthofen Castle. The Immenstadt District Court was dissolved on January 1, 1970; the tasks were taken over by the Sonthofen District Court before it became a branch of the Kempten District Court on July 1, 1973. In 1996 the foundation stone was laid for the extension to the main building, which was inaugurated in 1999.

By decision of the Bavarian State Parliament on July 18, 2007, the Sonthofen District Court was upgraded to an independent District Court on January 1, 2008. Alfred Reichert was appointed as the first director (director of the district court from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2014).
