An Introduction to Syd Barrett is a compilation of the musical works of the British guitarist , singer and songwriter Syd Barrett from his creative phase between 1967 and 1970. He wrote the first six pieces in 1967/68 for the rock band Pink Floyd , of which he was a founding member in 1965 was. Barrett completed his musical engagement with The Madcap Laughs and Barrett , which both emerged during his very short subsequent solo career from 1968 to 1970, and the single Octopus . The best of album was released on October 4, 2010 in Europe and on various subsequent dates in the rest of the world. Pink Floyd's friend and successor to the band, David Gilmour , played a key role in post-processing the recordings . The design of the record cover comes from the British graphic designer Storm Thorgerson , who also produced the cover of the 1973 album The Dark Side of the Moon . An Introduction to Syd Barrett reached number 104 on the UK charts.

Buyers of the CD and iTunes are offered a previously unreleased track with the twenty-minute instrumental piece Rhamadan for download .
