Anachronic Jazz Band
The Anachronic Jazz Band was a French hot jazz band whose repertoire consisted only of works from modern jazz . The nonet , which existed between 1976 and 1980, was directed by the pianist Philippe Baudoin and the multi-instrumentalist Marc Richard.
Band history
The group consisted of a front line with five wind instruments (including three saxophones and clarinets) and a four-part rhythm section (piano, banjo , sousaphone or tuba , drums ). The particular attraction was to not only play the repertoire , which mostly came from bebop (but also Coltrane's Giant Steps ) with an instrumentation from 1928, but also to lay out the solos accordingly (for example in the style of King Oliver ). In addition to the clever arrangements , excellent solo interventions, for example by Daniel Huck , Patrick Artero , André Villéger or Claude Gousset, were convincing . The band, which received the Prix Sidney Bechet of the Académie du Jazz in 1977, performed at European festivals and toured in Germany and Italy. Important recordings were re-released in 2009 in the Jazz in Paris series . In 2012 a reunion took place, the musical directors of which were Patrick Artero, Philippe Baudoin and Marc Richard; further concerts followed in the next few years.
