Anastas Ishirkov

Anastas Todorov Ischirkow ( Bulgarian Анастас Тодоров Иширков * 5. April 1868 in Lovech , † 6. April 1937 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian geographer .

Life

He first studied history at the University of Sofia and then geography in Leipzig . Ishirkov became a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences .

He is considered to be the founder of geographical science in Bulgaria. In his scientific work he dealt with physical and economic geography as well as ethnography .

He was a member of Bulgarian delegations in diplomatic negotiations several times, including the Peace of Bucharest in 1913 . Since 2013, the mountain bears Ishirkov Crag in Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula its name.
