Anatoli Andrejewitsch Banischewski ( Russian Анатолий Андреевич Банишевский , Azerbaijani Anatoli Banişevski ; born February 23, 1946 in Baku , Soviet Union ; † December 10, 1997 Baku, Azerbaijan ) was a Soviet football player, who later owned the Azerbaijan nationalist.
Life
Banischewski came from a Russian family from Baku who belonged to the religious group of the Molokans . During his entire club career he played exclusively for Neftschi Baku . With Neftschi he finished 3rd in the Soviet league in 1966 , which was the greatest success for the club before the independence of Azerbaijan .
In the Soviet national team he played from 1965 to 1972. He also took part in the 1966 World Cup in England, where the Soviet Union finished 4th. He played five games in this tournament and scored one goal against North Korea. In total, Anatoli Banischewski played 50 times (19 goals) or, according to FIFA's interpretation, 46 times (18 goals) for the Sbornaja . After his active playing career, he started as a coach at his old club in 1981. Due to persistent health problems, he ended this engagement in 1983.
After his active days, Banischewski suffered from pancreatitis and diabetes , in 1987 he fell into a diabetic coma for the first time, and in 1991 for the second time. He became increasingly addicted to alcoholism, which eventually led to the failure of his marriage. In the 1990s he lived at times as a homeless person on the streets of Baku before he met his new wife Saida, with whom he was able to overcome his alcohol addiction.
Banischewski died in 1997 at the age of only 51 after falling into a diabetic coma for the third time. He was buried in the honorary cemetery in Baku.
In 2003, during the 50th anniversary of UEFA , Banischewski was named the best Azerbaijani football player in the last 50 years.
