Anatrachyntis coridophaga is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of cosmopterigidae (Cosmopterigidae).

features

The moths reach a wingspan of 9 millimeters. The head is pale reddish brown. The antennae are blackish brown and ringed white in the first third. This is followed by three brown and three white sections, each consisting of four segments. The tip of the antennae is dark brown. The labial palps are white. The second segment has a brown basal spot and a brown subapical ring on the outside. The third segment has dark brown subbasal, medial, and subapical rings. Thorax and tegulae are reddish brown, the latter are broadly lined with white. The thorax has a white band behind the middle. The forewings are reddish brown and marked with two white bands. The first is at 1/4 of the forewing length and curves at the costalader to the wing base. The second band is located in front of the middle of the wing, runs slightly outwards and does not reach the Costa loader. Both bands have a black-brown border on the inside. A basal line runs along the Costa loader. A similar line begins on the outside of the second bandage and runs along the anal fold to the inner edge of the wing, where it turns inward and points towards the apex . A rather indistinct, white subcostal line is located behind the second bandage and extends to the apex. It is more or less mixed with reddish brown scales . A reddish-brown area extends between the second bandage and the apex. The fringed scales are reddish brown at the apex and yellowish white towards the inner edge of the wing. The hind wings are yellowish white including the fringed scales.

In the males, the brachia are strong. The left brachium is slightly shorter than the right and tapers abruptly to a sharp point. The blades are spatulate and have a straight upper edge. The lower edge is convex . The apex is rounded. The left valvella is straight and tapers distally . The apex is rounded. The right valvella is very small. The aedeagus is long and cylindrical. It tapers slightly distally. The genital armature of the males differs from Anatrachyntis rileyi and Anatrachyntis badia by the thicker brachia and the large, cylindrical aedeagus.

In females, the sterigma is spherical and has a large ostium in the middle . The ductus bursae is longer than the corpus bursae. The corpus bursae is egg-shaped and has an elongated lobe that ends in the seminal duct.

Similar species

The short and broader front wings with two almost straight, white bands distinguish Anatrachyntis coridophaga from other similar species.

distribution

Anatrachyntis coridophaga is native to Egypt and Libya .

biology

The caterpillars develop in the buds of various species of hibiscus ( hibiscus ). The moths were detected in April, July and October.
