Anatrachyntis is a genus of butterflies from the family of cosmopterigidae (Cosmopterigidae).
features
The moths have narrow to very narrow, lanceolate forewings with a reddish brown color and a pattern of irregular bands and lines. The drawing of the fringed scales is striking. The hind wings are very narrow and taper to a point.
In the males, the tegumen is long and slender. The brachia are of different lengths. The right brachium is once or twice as long as the left and tapers to a point. The valves are symmetrical, spatulate or lobus-like. The right valvella is well developed, the left is greatly reduced. The aedeagus is tubular or tapers distally .
In females, the apophyses posteriores are slightly longer than the apophyses anteriores . The ostium bursae is located in a sac-shaped membrane between the 7th and 8th sternite . The sterigma is only slightly sclerotized , cylindrical or spherical. The bursal duct is narrow and membranous. The corpus bursae is membranous and oval. Signa are not trained.
distribution
The species of the genus are spread pantropically . In Europe there are only three species, which are native to the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands .
biology
The caterpillars live on a variety of fruits and flowers and can damage cotton and other crops.
