Anatrachyntis is a genus of butterflies from the family of cosmopterigidae (Cosmopterigidae).

features

The moths have narrow to very narrow, lanceolate forewings with a reddish brown color and a pattern of irregular bands and lines. The drawing of the fringed scales is striking. The hind wings are very narrow and taper to a point.

In the males, the tegumen is long and slender. The brachia are of different lengths. The right brachium is once or twice as long as the left and tapers to a point. The valves are symmetrical, spatulate or lobus-like. The right valvella is well developed, the left is greatly reduced. The aedeagus is tubular or tapers distally .

In females, the apophyses posteriores are slightly longer than the apophyses anteriores . The ostium bursae is located in a sac-shaped membrane between the 7th and 8th sternite . The sterigma is only slightly sclerotized , cylindrical or spherical. The bursal duct is narrow and membranous. The corpus bursae is membranous and oval. Signa are not trained.

distribution

The species of the genus are spread pantropically . In Europe there are only three species, which are native to the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands .

biology

The caterpillars live on a variety of fruits and flowers and can damage cotton and other crops.

Systematics

The following list of species is based on the World catalog of cosmopterigid moths compiled by Sinev in 2002 . Over 50 species are known worldwide, in Europe the genus is only represented with three species.
