Anders Fryxell (born February 7, 1795 in Edsleskog , Åmål municipality , † March 21, 1881 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish historian .

Fryxell studied at Uppsala University , was ordained as a clergyman in 1820, and received his PhD from Uppsala University in 1821. In 1823 he began to publish his popular and popular Swedish history (Berättelser ur svenska historien, stories from Swedish history), which he continued with a total of 46 volumes until 1879 and which covered the period up to the reign of Adolf Friedrich . After his death Otto Sjögren wrote three more volumes, which appeared from 1891 to 1893 and the time of Gustav III. and Gustav IV Adolf treated.

His Swedish grammar was published in 1824. Because of his works, he received the title of professor in 1833 and became pastor of Sunne near Karlstad in 1835 , but received permission from his bishop in 1847 to devote himself only to writing and research.

In 1834 he became a member of the Kungliga Vitterhets Historie och Antikvitets Academies , in 1840 the Svenska Academies and in 1847 the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences . After his death, his daughter published a literary autobiography from the estate in 1884 .
