Andile Yenana

Andile Yenana (born June 10, 1968 in King William's Town ) is a South African jazz pianist , arranger and music producer .

Yenana, who found early access to jazz through his father's large record collection , first studied at Fort Hare University and completed a degree in education . Only then did he enroll in the jazz course with Darius Brubeck at the University of KwaZulu-Natal , where he met his fellow students Zim Ngqawana and Feya Faku , with whom he later played again and again. He founded his own band in Durban , but also played with Concord Nkabinde, Dumisane Shange and Mfana Mlabo before joining Ngqawana's band in Johannesburg , with whom he toured in Norway, Great Britain and France (and played on five of his albums ). He also toured internationally with Steve Dyer's Mahube project. He also played with Louis Mhlanga. Together with Sydney Mnisi, Marcus Wyatt , Herbie Tsoaeli and the drummers Lulu Gontsana and Morabo Morajele, he founded the group Voice , which recorded two albums and toured Scandinavia . There, as well as on his own albums, he tried to cultivate the repertoire of South African jazz. a. with compositions by Johnny Dyani and Dudu Pukwana . With Ngqawana and Robbie Jansen he performed at the 2004 Havana Jazz Festival .

He has also recorded with Andy Narell and Miriam Makeba ( Reflections 2004). As an arranger he worked for Sibongile Khumalo , Gloria Bosman and Suthukazi Arosi. He also worked as a record producer; he received a South African Music Award for best producer for the recording of Winston Mankunku's album Abantwana be Afrika . As a Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz , Yenana had the opportunity to perform in three different projects at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in 2005 .
