András Szőllősy

András Szőllősy [ ˈɒndraːʃ ˈsøːlːøːʃi ] (born February 27, 1921 in Orăştie in Transylvania , † December 6, 2007 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian composer and musicologist . He was best known for the list of Béla Bartók's works named after him .

Life

Szőllősy completed his music studies at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest with Zoltán Kodály and János Viski , and in Rome with Goffredo Petrassi . In addition to his music studies, he studied Hungarian and French literature at the University of Budapest. In 1943 he wrote his dissertation on Zoltán Kodály.

Szőllősy taught music history and score playing at the Budapest Music Academy between 1950 and 1988 . As a musicologist he compiled a list of Kodály's works in 1953. In 1957 he completed the Szőllősy directory of Béla Bartók's works . In 1967 he published Bartók's collected writings.

As a composer, in addition to stage and film music, he also wrote pieces for solo singing, chamber music and several concertos for orchestra from the 1950s onwards .

Szőllősy died after a long and serious illness.
