André van Hasselt

André Henri Constant van Hasselt ( Dutch Andries Hendrik van Hasselt ; born January 5, 1806 in Maastricht , † December 1, 1874 in Brussels ) was a Belgian chronicler and poet of Dutch origin.

Life

Andries Hendrik van Hasselt was initially a Dutch citizen until 1830 . However, as a result of the Belgian Revolution and the ensuing independence, van Hasselt received citizenship from Belgium . He studied at the universities of Ghent and Liège . After successfully completing his studies, he got a job in the state administration service.

Van Hasselt was later appointed curator at the Royal Library in Brussels (now the National Library ). He then held the post of inspector of primary education and the Écoles Normales .

In 1837 van Hasselt was accepted as a member of the royal academy .

André Henri Constant van Hasselt died on December 1, 1874, four weeks before his 68th birthday in Brussels, where he found his final resting place.
