André Poppe

André Poppe (born November 4, 1943 in Sint-Niklaas ) is a former Belgian cyclist .

Athletic career

As an amateur , he was able to win some medals at Belgian rail championships. In 1965 he was runner-up in the stand behind Etienne Van der Vieren . At the International Peace Tour in 1966 was 32nd in the final ranking. In 1965 he started a racing series in the GDR and won the race in Hainichen ( Great Barkas Prize ) against the GDR elite. That season he also won two stages in the Tour of Mexico (12th place in the overall standings).

In the summer of 1966 he received his first contract in a professional team , with Solo-Superia , in which Rik van Looy and Rik van Steenbergen were under contract. Poppe competed in the Tour de France four times, in 1968 he was part of the team that won the team time trial. The 14th place in 1968 was his best result in the tour. He participated in the Giro d'Italia in 1971 (68th) and 1972 (40th). He  drove the V uelta a España in 1970 (19th).
