Karl Hucke

Friedrich Arnold Nepomuk Karl Hucke (born January 14, 1822 in Erfurt ; † February 10, 1911 there ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Karl was the son of the criminal inspector and later district judge Arnold Hucke († 1870) and his wife Elisabeth, née Nehaus († 1856).

Military career

After attending elementary school and grammar school in Erfurt, Hucke joined the 4th Artillery Brigade of the Prussian Army on April 11, 1839 . For further training, he completed the United Artillery and Engineering School from October 1840 to July 1843 , was transferred to the 7th Artillery Brigade as an extra-budgetary second lieutenant during this command and was appointed an artillery officer on October 17, 1843. From April 1, 1851 to July 1, 1853, Hucke was adjutant of the mounted division and rose to prime lieutenant in January 1853 . On July 1, 1858, he was promoted to captain and on December 1, 1859, he was appointed chief of the 3rd mounted battery in Naumburg . This was followed in March 1862 as an artillery officer from the place in Küstrin and he resigned on April 4, 1865 as a company commander for the Magdeburg Fortress Artillery Regiment No. 4. After the German War , Hucke became major and commander of the III on October 30, 1866 . Department in Erfurt. On February 25, 1868, he moved to the 3rd Artillery Brigade and at the same time received command of the Hessian Fortress Artillery Department No. 11.

During the war against France , Hucke was from August 21, 1870, department commander of the siege artillery in front of Strasbourg and from October 10, 1870 in the corps in front of Paris . On January 10, 1871, he received the Iron Cross II. Class, advanced to Lieutenant Colonel on January 18, 1871, and after the peace treaty was subsequently awarded the Iron Cross I Class on September 18, 1871. On September 17, 1872, Hucke was transferred to Cologne as commander of the Westphalian Foot Artillery Regiment No. 7 and in this capacity was promoted to colonel at the end of March 1873 . With the award of the Red Eagle Order III. Class with bow, he was on board , and the permission to wear his regiment uniform for disposition made. On the occasion of the 100th birthday of Kaiser Wilhelm I , Wilhelm II gave him the character of Major General on March 22, 1897 . He died on February 10, 1911 in Erfurt.

Hucke married Johanna Kaupisch († 1894) on March 28, 1859 in Sangerhausen . The couple had several children including:

  • Paul (* 1861), Prussian lieutenant general ⚭ 1891 Bernhardine Lieven
  • Johannes (* 1863), Prussian Prime Lieutenant
