André Salvisberg

André Salvisberg (* 1965 ) is a Swiss historian .

Life

André Salvisberg studied history at the University of Basel and graduated in 1991 with a licentiate. In his unpublished licentiate thesis, he dealt with the police in the canton of Basel-Stadt in the 1850s and 1860s. After graduating, he worked as a freelance writer and historian for a few years. Today he works at the Christoph Merian Foundation , where he is responsible for archives and collections, as well as secretary of the Education and Culture Commission of the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt. He has published numerous books and essays, primarily on the history of the Basel region. He is also the author of several articles in the Historical Lexicon of Switzerland .
