Christian Simon (historian)

Christian Simon (born April 17, 1951 in Basel ) is a Swiss historian .

Life

Simon studied chemistry , later history , philosophy and Latin at the University of Basel . He received his doctorate in 1981 with research on rural society in the 18th century. At the University of Montpellier and at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, he studied the history of historical science in its relationship to the nation state . Since 1986 he has been researching the history of chemistry , biology , the chemical-pharmaceutical industry and the environment . In 1988 he was Basel at the University habilitated and appointed Adjunct Professor of General and Swiss history 1994th In 2000/01 he was a Gordon Cain Fellow at the Chemical Heritage Foundation in Philadelphia. He also taught at the universities of Freiburg im Breisgau , Bern , Zurich and Geneva .

Christian Simon was married to the historian Katharina Simon-Muscheid .
