André Steiner (* 1959 in Berlin ) is a German historian .

André Steiner studied economic history at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1981 to 1986 . He then worked there as a research assistant until 1989 and received his doctorate in 1987 with a thesis on the history of automation in the GDR . From 1989 to 1992 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Economic History of the Academy of Sciences in Berlin and its successor institution. From 1993 to 1999 he worked as a research assistant at the Department of Economic and Social History at the University of Mannheim . In 1997 he received his habilitation from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Mannheim and was awarded the Venia Legendi in economic and social history. Steiner taught from 1998 to 1999 as a substitute professor at the Ruhr University in Bochum . Since 2000 he has been project manager at the Center for Contemporary History Research Potsdam (ZZF). In 2001 he completed his habilitation at the University of Potsdam and was appointed adjunct professor there in 2005. From 2006 to 2013 he headed the Department of Economic and Social Changes in the 20th Century at the ZZF .

André Steiner researched and published extensively on the economic history of the GDR. In addition, he dealt with the economy during National Socialism and economic integration in Western and Eastern Europe after the Second World War. His current research interests include: the economic history of globalization and the economic and social history of post-war Germany and Eastern Europe. On television, for example, he gave lectures on these topics for Bavarian television , Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk and n-tv .
