André Willequet (born January 3, 1921 in Brussels , Belgium ; † July 1, 1998 in Ukkel , Belgium) was a Belgian sculptor.

life and work

Willequet was born in Brussels but grew up in Luxembourg . From 1940 to 1945 he studied with the sculptor Oscar Jespers at the Belgian École nationale supérieure des arts visuels (ENSAV) - previously École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture et des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAAD - la Cambre) in Brussels. In 1947 he was awarded second prize at the Prix ​​de Rome awards ceremony . He went on a trip to France and there met the artists Constantin Brâncuși , Ossip Zadkine and Henri Laurens . From 1951 to 1952 he studied at the Royal College of Art in London with the sculptors Jacob Epstein and Henry Moore . In 1959 he went to Florence and Rome and was invited as a stone sculptor to the first European sculpture symposium St. Margarethen with Karl Prantl in St. Margarethen in Burgenland .

Willequet's style changed from figurative representational style to abstract art . He worked with wood, natural stone , bronze and steel. Some of his work is in the Brussels region .
