Andrés Martínez , full name Andrés Javier Martínez Falazzini , (born October 16, 1972 in Pando ) is a former Uruguayan football player .

Career

The 1.86 meter tall midfielder Martínez belonged to the team of Club Atlético Peñarol at the beginning of his career from 1990 to the end of 1991 . During this period he came to the "Aurinegros" in 71 games of the Primera División for use and scored two goals. In 1993 and 1994 his club became Uruguayan champions. He then played for the Spanish second division club CA Osasuna . From his debut on January 4, 1995 in the game against UD Salamanca in the Copa del Rey to his last appearance on May 18, 1996 against SD Eibar , he played a total of 40 second division games (five goals) and five matches (two goals ) in the national cup. In 1996 the Club Atlético Cerro was his employer. With the Montevideans there are two first division appearances for him. 1997 Martínez ran 15 times for Defensor Sporting in the top Uruguayan league and scored five goals. This was followed in 1997 by a career station at US Lecce . The club from Puglia , he was first on 5 October 1997 against AS Bari in the Serie A erected. The last of his twelve personally goalless league appearances for Lecce dated January 25, 1998 against AC Piacenza . For the second half of the season he moved to FC Bologna, where he was only used in the encounter with SSC Napoli held on March 8, 1998 . National team

Martínez took with the Uruguayan U-20 selection at the U-20 South American Championship in 1991 and finished third with the team. During the tournament he was used six times (no goal) by coach Juan José Duarte . In the same year he played with the Celeste in the Junior World Cup in 1991 , but with the team he was eliminated in the group stage.

Martínez made his debut on November 29, 1992 in the 0-1 defeat in the friendly international match against the Polish selection in the Uruguayan senior team , when coach Luis Alberto Cubilla ordered him into the starting line-up. It was not until October 19, 1994 that he played his second international match in the Copa Parra del Riego against Peru when coach Héctor Núñez made his debut . Again it took two and a half years for Juan Ahuntchaín , who is now responsible for the Uruguayan national team, to resort to Martinez's services in the World Cup qualifier against Venezuela on April 2, 1997. Then he was only considered again by Víctor Púa for the 2001 Copa America . In this tournament he played five times in the national jersey. His last appearance for the national team was dated July 29, 2001 in the game there for third place against Honduras . He made a total of eight international matches and scored one goal.
