Andrea Keller

Andrea Keller (* 1973 in Sydney ) is an Australian jazz musician ( piano , composition ).

Live and act

Keller received piano lessons from the age of seven; at the age of 14 she discovered jazz. She later attended the University of Wollongong , where she began studying composition. At the Victorian College of Arts she was then invited to join the faculty. She also completed a Masters at the Queensland University of Technology .

Keller, mentored by Mike Nock , has performed with Australian jazz greats such as Dale Barlow , Brian Brown , Allan Browne, Barry Duggan and Sandy Evans. In 2000 she presented her first album, which has been followed by eight more albums under her own name so far (2015), not only with her own compositions, but also with the music of Béla Bartók and Wayne Shorter . In 2012 she combined her quartet with Christina Fuchs's quartet ; this octet, for which both directors composed, was celebrated as the highlight of the Wangaratta Jazz Festival 2012 and gave concerts in Germany in 2014. She is also a member of Keller / Murphy / Browne 'and belongs to Jamie Oehler's' Small World Ensemble', the Geoff Hughes Collective, the Bennets Lane Big Band and forms a duo with Tim Wilson.

Keller performed at all the major Australian jazz festivals and was able to present her bassless quartet at the Moers Festival in 2007 . She has received commissions from the Melbourne International Women's Jazz Festival , from Mike Nock for his BigSmallBand , the Australian Art Orchestra and Ten Part Invention .

Prizes and awards

Keller's productions have so far received three ARIA Awards, three Bell Awards and an Australian Art Music Award.
