Andrea Schurian (born November 30, 1957 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian cultural journalist and author. From 2008 to 2017 she headed the cultural department of the daily newspaper Der Standard and is editor-in-chief of the Jewish quarterly magazine Nu .

biography

Andrea Schurian studied journalism and political science at the University of Vienna . In 1982 she was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. As a freelance writer, she has been writing on cultural and travel topics for magazines and newspapers since 1981, including Extrablatt , Merian , Geo , Vogue , Die Presse and Kleine Zeitung . After a year-long stay in New York, she worked from 1985 to 2002 as a freelancer in the culture department of the ORF . From 1995 she also worked as a moderator , u. a. she moderated the 3sat until 1997Broadcast Kulturzeit and from 1998 to 2002 the avant-garde art broadcast kunst-pieces on ORF. She has been producing documentaries and artist portraits for television since the late 1980s, for example about Maria Lassnig in 1992 and about André Heller's Paradise Garden in Marrakech in 2016 . In autumn 2008 she became Head of the Culture Department at Standard . Since January 2018 she has been editor-in-chief of Nu , a Jewish quarterly magazine for politics and culture.

Andrea Schurian lives in Vienna, is married to the artist Rudi Stanzel and has two grown children.
