Andreas Aloneftis

Andreas Aloneftis ( Greek Ανδρέας Αλωνεύτης ; born August 24, 1945 in Nicosia ) is a politician in the Republic of Cyprus who was Minister of Defense between 1988 and 1993 and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) from 2003 to 2006 .

Life

Andreas Aloneftis, son of Polkarpos Aloneftis and Charitini Papandreou, was an accountant between 1966 and 1972 and then chief accountant of the Cyprus Development Bank from 1972 to 1976 . During this time he completed his studies at the School of Accountancy and Business Studies in Glasgow , which he graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1973 . He was Finance Manager at Cyprus Development Bank from 1976 to 1978 , during which time he completed postgraduate studies at Southern Methodist University (SMU) with a Master of Business Administration (MBA). From 1978 to 1982 he was Senior Investment Manager at the Cyprus Development Bank and, after completing a further postgraduate course at the New York Institute of Finance, moved to Cyprus Investment and Securities Corporation in 1982 and was its General Manager and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) until 1988 .

On February 29, 1988 Aloneftis became Minister of Defense in the Georges Vassiliou cabinet and was a member of this until February 28, 1993. After leaving the government, he served as CEO of the American Life Insurance Company in Nicosia from 1993 to 1995 and then as Managing Director of CypriaLife Insurance from 1995 to 1999 . During this time he also completed a postgraduate course at Henley Management College from 1996 to 2000 and was general manager of an insurance group between 1999 and 2000. He served as Executive Director and CEO of Lambousa Venture Capital and Olympos Investments between 2000 and 2001 and has been Executive Chairman of Allied Capital since 2001 and Executive Vice Chairman of Alliance International Reinsurance in 2001 . He completed another postgraduate degree at Middlesex University in 2002 and was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) from 2003 to 2006 .

His 1967 marriage to Nethie Georghiades resulted in the children Alkis and Cynthia.
