Andreas Cassius (doctor)

Andreas Cassius (* around 1600 in Schleswig ; † May 16, 1673 in Hamburg ) was a German doctor and inventor of a gold-purple pigment and a process for coloring glass ( gold ruby ​​glass ) and enamel (Cassius gold). He worked in Hamburg and was personal physician to Prince Bishop Johann von Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf in Eutin .

Cassius was the son of the lawyer of the same name, Andreas Cassius . He studied medicine in Rostock and Leiden and received his doctorate there in 1632. His method of purple coloring with gold solution was published posthumously by his son in a book in Hamburg in 1685 . Cassius also published medical treatises.

He was friends with Joachim Jungius , who appointed him to be one of his executors .
