Andreas Cellarius (* around 1596 in Worms-Neuhausen ; † 1665 in Hoorn ) was a German astronomer , mathematician and cosmographer .

Andreas Cellarius was born as the son of a pastor of the same name in Neuhausen near Worms . After the family moved to Heidelberg , he attended the Sapienzkolleg and enrolled in 1614 at the city's University a.

Little is known about his future fate. In 1625 he married in Amsterdam . From 1637 until his death in 1665 he was the principal of the Latin school in Hoorn .

In 1660 he published his richly illustrated sky atlas called Harmonia Macrocosmica , later often referred to as the "Cellarius Atlas".

The asteroid (12618) Cellarius was named after him.
