Andreas Coerper

Andreas Coerper (* 1955 in Düsseldorf ) is a German artist , author , director and documentary filmmaker .

Life

After studying at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts , Coerper initially aspired to a career as a visual artist and gained local fame through his minimalist room installations and sculptural objects. In 1981 he founded the M. Raskin Stichting Ens together with Rotraut Pape , Oliver Hirschbiegel , Eschi Fiege and Kai Schirmer . The group existed until 1987 and performed at the Center Georges-Pompidou in Paris and at Documenta 8 in Kassel.

As an artist, Coerper also experimented with the medium of film, which he made his main occupation after turning away from the visual arts, which he ultimately accused of redundancy and visual environmental pollution.

From the beginning, satirical works for German television were the focus of his work. In his films, with television stars such as Wigald Boning , Helge Schneider and Martin Sonneborn , who later achieved national fame , especially in the productions for the NDR satirical program Extra 3 and the multi-award-winning ZDF heute-show , he shaped the forms and genres of satirical short films, which in the following years should leave their mark on the German humor culture. He also acted several times in the films as a speaker, whose style brought forth numerous imitators.

A large part of Andreas Coerper's work consists of medium-length television documentaries in which the everyday life of the German middle class is portrayed in a quiet satirical form. The film Heimatkunde , which shows the former editor-in-chief of the satirical magazine Titanic , Martin Sonneborn, wandering around the capital Berlin, is Coerper's first full-length feature film. Other well-known films are The PARTY , Help us to be restructured! People on the verge of a nervous breakdown , news from the king from Burladingen and hula girls in a cocktail frenzy - the American South Seas dream . In 2014 Coerper received the Grimme Prize for the three-part report Sonneborn saves the world .

All of Andreas Coerper's films were made in collaboration with his partner Susanne Müller , with whom he founded the joint production company SMACfilm in 1992 .
