The PARTEI is a German film satire from 2009 by Andreas Coerper and Martin Sonneborn , the former editor-in-chief of the satirical magazine Titanic , about the party for work, the rule of law, animal protection, elite support and grassroots initiative (short name Die PARTEI ). The film was produced by Smacfilm .

action

Sonneborn, who is both founder and federal chairman of the party, shows in the film the history of the party since it was founded in 2004 and his vision of political success. The film advertised as a “propaganda film documentary in the tried and tested Guido Knopp manner” is similar in style to a fictional documentary film. The participants are targeted in real interviews and various elements of documentaries are parodied in staged scenes, such as the eyewitness interviews with party officials.

The film takes place in the future of 2013, when the party in the film has already usurped political power in Germany. It offers a non-chronological look back at the path of the party Die PARTTEI from its foundation in 2004 to 2009, the year the film was released.

The documentary begins with a visit by Sonneborn and his colleagues to the Bundestag , where they meet various members of parliament. As a precaution, Sonneborn measures the office of FDP member Siegfried Gelbhaar for the presumed move into the Bundestag and haggles over furniture.

The election campaign for the 2005 Bundestag elections is the subject of intense discussion, such as the call for the Dresden Frauenkirche to be demolished or the high-profile reconstruction of a few meters of the wall. Real media reports about the party are shown as well as the last election commercial for the federal election. There is also footage from several federal party conferences and the casting of the candidate for chancellor.

The party's first foreign policy act is the visit to Georgia in 2007 and the associated visit to Stalin's birthplace. The main reason for the trip, however, is the meeting with the Georgian Workers' Party (represented by Shalva Natelashvili among others ) and the conclusion of bilateral agreements in which the cooperation between the two parties is decided.

background

The cinema release in Germany was on August 13, 2009. On March 26, 2010 the film was released on DVD. The accompanying bonus DVD contains unused material, a choice of TV spots and chats with Martin Sonneborn.

Reviews

“Satirical mummery as a pseudo-documentation that is quite close to reality. Some amusing examples of brazen populism and political dirt campaigns, but also some comedic dropouts combine to form a subtle nonsense that holds up a mirror to German media democracy. "

“The reactions are the most remarkable thing about the 100-minute real satire. One wonders which is worse: the lack of humor of those who are terribly upset about the satirists, or the fact that some are really serious about the fun. [...] Most of the joke comes from a narrator who overdraws everything completely; only a few scenes are self-explanatory. They impress with subversive situational comedy . [...] Again and again the PARTY is duping with its sovereign no-face distortion. Despite all the boldness, she is always critical of the media and society. "

- Maike Schultz - Berliner Zeitung

"A hot device as a candidate for chancellor, wild feasts in Georgia: With the satirical documentary" The Party - the Film ", a few political provocateurs make the most witty contribution to the federal election campaign to date."

- Thorsten Dörting - Spiegel Online
