Andreas Ewels

Andreas Ewels (* 1969 in Münster ) is a German journalist and director who is particularly known for his nature documentaries .

He completed community service and studies in Cologne . He began his journalistic career at the age of 16 at the Münsterschen Zeitung as a reporter and photographer. He later published in various daily newspapers and magazines before switching to radio. As an author and moderator, he worked a. a. for the WDR , Radio Hundert, 6 Berlin, Radio Bremen and Antenne Münster .

From 1990 Ewels also worked for television, first for WDR (including for Here and Today ), then from the start of broadcast until 1997 for the show Stern TV and then moved to Burda-Verlag in Munich. Here he worked for Focus TV GmbH as a producer and author . Ewels has been with ZDF since 2001 . In Mainz he helped set up the programs ZDF.reporter and planet.e . With a special permit from ZDF, Ewels produced a total of six episodes as a director for the ARD (NDR) series Expeditions into the Animal Kingdom , including Adventure Ocean and Adventure Namib .

Well-known works by the filmmaker include the ZDF two-part series “Adventure Rhine” and the ZDF three-part series “Adventure Mallorca”, each of which focuses on the ZDF camera zeppelin with spectacular aerial shots. His TV and cinema production “Lerchenberg Adventure” also attracted a lot of attention, for which the DJV won the 2013 “Wildlife and Environment” journalism prize.

Documentaries and films by Andreas Ewels have been nominated for numerous festivals and awards, and have received honorable mentions and prizes. In 2013, Ewels received the Hoimar von Ditfurth Prize together with the ZDF editorial team planet.e . In the United Arab Emirates , his film The Reptile Mafia won the 2013 Abu Dhabi International Environmental Film Festival , making Ewels the recipient of the Golden Gazelle Award .

Ewels is married to the linguist and managing director of the Society for the German Language (GfdS) Andrea-Eva Ewels. They have a son together and live in Wiesbaden .
