Andreas Heinz (theologian)

Andreas Heinz (born October 3, 1941 in Auw an der Kyll ) is a German theologian.

Life and work

Andreas Heinz was born in Auw an der Kyll in the Eifel district of Bitburg and ordained a priest on October 10, 1968 in Rome . After his chaplaincy , Heinz worked from 1971 onwards at the Liturgical Institute and as a pastor in Bitburg-Erdorf .

In October 1973 he became assistant for liturgical studies at the theological faculty in Trier , and in December 1975 he received his doctorate in theology. After working as a research assistant at the Faculty of Theology Trier, lecturer in Liturgy Sciences on Study House St. Lambert in Lantershofen , Prosynodalrichter on Offizialat in Trier and professor of liturgy at the Ruhr-University Bochum Heinz became a full on April 1, 1981 professor of liturgy at the Trier Theological Faculty.

Among other things, Heinz was head of the scientific department at the German Liturgical Institute and advisor to the liturgy commission of the German Bishops' Conference . In 1999 Heinz was elected 2nd chairman of the German Liturgical Institute, in the same year he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon . After his retirement in 2007, Heinz worked as a local pastor . On October 10, 2017, Heinz was appointed Dome of Honor at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Luxembourg as part of a pontifical ministry with Archbishop Jean-Claude Hollerich .

In May 2014 he was appointed " Chaplain of His Holiness " ( Monsignor ) by Pope Francis .
