Andreas Helmer (born February 25, 1966 in Saerbeck ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach. The defender played 411 games in the 2nd Bundesliga , in which he scored 32 goals.

Career

In autumn, when he was seventeen, Andreas Helmer joined the professional team together with Paul Jaschke from VfL Osnabrück's own youth department . He made his debut on November 26, 1983 in the away game, which he lost 2-0 at SC Freiburg, and played a total of eleven games in his first second division season . The defensive player and his teammates could not prevent relegation to the amateur league , but after the immediate return from the Oberliga Nord in the following year , he continued his career from 1985 in the 2nd division. There he is one of the most frequently used players in history. From the summer of 1990 Helmer played for eight seasons at SV Meppen before moving to Preußen Münster . In 2001 he returned to SV Meppen, where he was temporarily a player-coach and ended his career as a footballer in 2005.
