Andreas Jacob Fischer (born November 30, 1789 in Offenburg , † May 11, 1860 in Ovelgönne ) was a German pharmacist .

Life

Fischer comes from a family of soldiers from Jever. After attending the Latin school in Jever , Fischer began a five-year pharmacist teacher in Wildeshausen in the autumn of 1803 and went to Westerstede as an assistant in 1808 . At Easter 1801 he joined the pharmacist Docius in Ovelgönne as a provisional. In 1811 he married his daughter and was defended that same year after graduating. He then took over the Ovelgönne pharmacy, which he ran until his death.

Fischer was a versatile pharmacist who, in addition to botanical, medical, mineralogical and natural history inclinations, also cultivated sociability and pleasure. In the French period he is said to have held the office of mayor (adjunct), in 1819 he became a church and poor judge.

In 1831 he published a brochure on cholera . Frequent visits to and use of the baths in Baden , Aachen , Wiesbaden , Ems , Schwalbach , Pyrmont , Nenndorf and especially Wildungen prompted him to study mineral water cures. In 1838 he wrote a booklet about wilderness, in which he instructed the spa guest about the bathing resort, about well analyzes and about therapeutic and dietary measures. His own investigations led to the detection of arsenic and copper in the Wildunger spring water, which he reported in 1847 in the pharmacy archive. A Conchylia collection that he had created was donated to the Natural History Museum in Oldenburg around 1873 .
