Andreas Lau

Andreas Lau (born February 13, 1959 in Riesa ) is a German sports scientist , university professor and basketball official .

Life

Lau attended in his Saxon hometown Riesa from 1965 to 1973 the Allgemeine Polytechnische Oberschule and from 1973 to 1977 the extended high school "Max Planck", where he passed the Abitur exams in 1977. After two years of military service, he began studying at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg in 1979 and graduated in 1983 as a certified teacher for biology and sport. The topic of his diploma thesis was "Possibilities of recording and evaluating conditional and technical performance requirements in the youth field basketball".

Lau stayed at the University of Halle-Wittenberg and took up a position as a research assistant in the Sports Science section; from 1985 he was employed there at the rank of research assistant. In 1989 he submitted his doctoral thesis (title: "Theoretical and training methodological aspects for training target accuracy in goal-throwing in the basic training of handball players"). In 1999 he obtained an additional qualification in sports psychology.

In 2005, Lau completed his habilitation  (“The collective performance in sports games - an interdisciplinary analysis”) and was then from 2006 to 2012 a private lecturer in sports science. In 2013 he was appointed adjunct professor at the Institute for Sports Science at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg .

Lau's main research areas include sports games, martial arts, psychology in competitive sports, the subject of flow, group processes, the subject areas of integration and inclusion, and sports therapy in oncology. In 2002, together with Oliver Stoll and Sebastian Wahnelt, he published the work “Mental Training in Basketball - A Handbook for Players and Trainers”. He was one of the authors of the newly published official textbook of the German Basketball Association “Handbuch Basketball”. Technique - Tactics - Training - Methodology ”. In 2016, Lau published “Social Psychology and Sport - a textbook in 12 lessons” in collaboration with Henning Plessner .

Lau is also involved in basketball in practice. In recognition of his work, he was awarded the certificate of honor by the USV Halle in 1995 and the gold pin of honor in 1998. In 2012 he was elected chairman of the basketball section at USV Halle.
