Andreas Schumann (born June 22, 1757 in Bayreuth ; † May 28, 1828 there ) was a German educator and author.

Life

Andreas Schumann was the only son of the margrave cabinet carpenter Georg Jakob Schumann and his wife, a née Tanner from Creußen .

He was originally supposed to learn his father's craft, but he received private scientific lessons and this shaped his desire to work in this area later. He attended the high school in Bayreuth , which he successfully completed in May 1776.

In 1776 he began to study the philosophical and philological sciences at the University of Erlangen , especially the Greek and Roman antiquities. He attended the lectures in history with Johann Georg Meusel , theology with August Friedrich Pfeiffer , Johann Georg Rosenmüller and Georg Friedrich Seiler (1733-1807), this took him in the seminary and in the institute of morality and the beautiful sciences, a branch of German Society , which Johann Ernst Basilius Wiedeburg founded in 1754. Gottlieb Christoph Harleß accepted him into the philological seminar founded in 1777.

At the end of his second year of study, the Councilor and Professor of Medicinal Science Dr. Jacob Friedrich Isenflamm (1726–1793) took care of the upbringing and instruction of his two sons. He did this until 1782.

During his studies he took an active part in the disputations of the university, appearing several times as an opponent and on July 21, 1779 at the court advisor Dr. Halretz appeared as a respondent . On April 23, 1783, he received his doctorate from the philosophy faculty of the University of Erlangen and then returned to Bayreuth.

In Bayreuth, Hofkammerrat Schmidt gave him the position of private tutor , which he held for two years. During this time he distinguished himself through his sermons in various churches in Bayreuth.

After passing the exam, he was employed at the suggestion of the consistory in Bayreuth as a professor of Latin and German eloquence, poetry and antiquity at the grammar school. His introduction took place on March 1, 1785 and he served in this office for 27 years.

In 1811 he received the parish in Selb at his request and worked there as a pastor until his death .

Andreas Schumann was married to Sophia Johanna Schumann, the daughter of the philologist and historical researcher Konsistorialrat and Professor Lang from Bayreuth , since October 20, 1784 . Together they had 10 children.
