The Dolina Jaworzynki , formed by glaciers in the Ice Age, is a valley in the Polish Western Tatras in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship . It is located in the municipality of Zakopane in the powiat Tatrzański .

geography

The valley is an eastern side valley of the main valley Dolina Bystrej and is surrounded by mountains up to 1704 meters high. a. the Kopa Magury . The rock walls in the valley are made of limestone, in which numerous caves appear, of which Jaskinia Magurska is the most famous.

The valley falls from the southeast to the northwest from about 1704 meters to 1014 meters. The mountain river Jaworzynka flows through it. Much of the valley's waters flow underground.

etymology

The name can be translated as "Valley of the Jaworzynka". The name comes from the mountain stream that flows through it.

Flora and fauna

The valley lies above and below the tree line and is covered with mountain pines in the upper area and coniferous forest in the lower area. The valley is a retreat for numerous mammals and bird species.

climate

There is a high mountain climate in the valley.

Alpine farming

Before the Tatra National Park was established in 1954, the valley was used for alpine farming. After that, the owners of the alpine pastures were expropriated or forced to sell. Former alpine huts are still in the valley. The largest alpine pasture in the valley was Hala Jaworzynka . Ores were also mined in the valley. The former shafts are still there. From 1920 to 1930 the oldest ski jump in Zakopane was in the valley . After the construction of the Wielka Krokiew this hill was dismantled again. The hill record was 36 meters and was set by František Wende .
