Career

Wende grew up as the son of a cooper and showed early interest in skiing, which was still relatively new at the time. From 1924 to 1928 he took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships and Olympic Winter Games four times. At the Olympic Winter Games in Chamonix in 1924 , Wende competed as a ski jumper and jumped from the normal hill to 10th place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1925 , Wende started as a jumper and combiner. In the combination he came fourth and in jumping on the normal hill he won the bronze medal behind his compatriot Wilen Dick and the Norwegian Henry Ljungmann . Two years later in Cortina d'Ampezzo he also competed in the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1927 . He won the bronze medal in the individual Nordic combined behind his compatriots Rudolf Burkert and Otakar Německý . In the jump on the normal hill, he finished fifth. At the Olympic Winter Games in St. Moritz in 1928 , Wende was again part of the squad and started in the individual Nordic Combined. However, he missed the ranking and was eliminated. In addition to his international successes, he also achieved several victories at national championships. After his active career, Wende worked as a ski instructor in Špindlerův Mlýn in winter and as a tennis instructor in summer first in Janské Lázně and Špindlerův Mlýn, later also in Bad Harzburg in Germany , where he moved. He died there in 1968.
