Andreas Staub
Andreas Staub (born October 17, 1806 in Mariakirch in Alsace ; † April 5, 1839 in Vienna ) was an Alsatian watercolor painter and lithographer who had been working in Austria since his studies .
Life
Little is known about the life of the gifted artist. At the age of 19 he entered the Vienna Art Academy as a student and soon showed his watercolors in exhibitions. Around 1835 he portrayed a number of well-known personalities such as the piano virtuoso Sigismund Thalberg , the actress Johanna Franul von Weißenthurn or the natural healer Vincenz Prießnitz . His portrait, which is still very well known today, is that of Clara Wieck-Schumann , which was featured on the 100 DM notes of the fourth series between 1990 and 2001. Staub died of suicide at the age of 32 .
