Andreas Thiermeyer

Andreas Thiermeyer (born October 1, 1949 in Altdorf ) is a German Catholic clergyman. He was the diocesan commissioner of the diocese of Eichstätt for the pastoral care of migrants and founding rector of the Collegium Orientale in Eichstätt .

Life

Andreas Thiermeyer received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Eichstätt in 1977 . After further studies, he obtained a licentiate at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome and was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD .

He was active in the pastoral care and temporarily lived in the Byzantine department of the Niederaltaich monastery . In 1994 he became the parish priest in Weißenburg in Bavaria .

With the establishment of the Byzantine study seminar Collegium Orientale in 1998, he became the first rector to take over its leadership. Pope Benedict XVI in 2006 appointed him Consultor of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches .

With effect from September 1st, 2008 he was appointed pilgrimage rector of the church Maria Heil der Kranken on Habsberg and spiritual director of the local youth center of the diocese of Eichstätt.

Bishop Gregor Hanke appointed Thiermeyer as diocesan commissioner for pastoral care for migrants in the diocese of Eichstätt with effect from February 1, 2015 and released him from his previous duties on the Habsberg. At the same time he was commissioned to work in the Berching Parish Association with his residence in Oening . He retired on September 1, 2017.

In the diocese of Eichstätt, Thiermeyer had been a member of the ecumenical commission since 2005 and environmental officer since 2011.

Honors

In 2002, Grand Archbishop Lubomyr Cardinal Husar awarded him the title of Archpriest of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church . In 2010 he was awarded the honorary title of Archimandrite . He was consecrated by Bishop Milan Šašik on October 10, 2010 in Uzhgorod .
