Andreas dei Benzi

Andreas dei Benzi (* around 1360 in Gualdo Tadino ; † April 17, 1437 in Sion ) was Prince-Bishop of Sion .

Career

He was the son of Pietro di Gionta dei Benzi and studied theology in Rome . In 1408 he became vicar general of the diocese of Eger in Hungary and in the same year archdeacon of Zala and papal collector in the ecclesiastical provinces of Kalocsa and Esztergom , and in 1409 major penitentiary of Hungary. He was a supporter of King Sigismund of Luxembourg and his representative at the Council of Constance , which appointed him administrator of the diocese of Sion in 1418. In 1431 he became Bishop of Sitten. He was a participant in the Basel Council (1431–1449) and donated the St. Andrew's Altar in the Cathedral of Sion .
