Jorge Djaniny Tavares Semedo or Djaniny for short (born March 21, 1991 in Santa Cruz ) is a Cape Verdean football player who has been playing for Santos Laguna since summer 2014 .

Career

society

Djaniny played for Scorpions Vermelho de Santa Cruz in his youth before emigrating to Portugal in 2009 at the age of 18 to study. Shortly after arriving in Portugal, he went to GD Velense, a local club in the Angra do Heroísmo area . After scoring a total of 50 goals in two seasons, he moved to first division club União Leiria on July 18, 2011 , where he signed a two-year contract. He made his debut in the top Portuguese division on August 21 over the full playing time in the 1: 2 defeat against FC Paços de Ferreira . His first goal of the season against Vitória Setúbal followed on October 30 , and a week later he was successful against Sporting Lisbon .

In January 2012 Djaniny moved to Benfica Lisbon , but was signed for their B-team , which plays in the Segunda League . But after only two missions and one goal, he was loaned to the first division club SC Olhanense on August 31, 2012 for a year . For Olhanense he made his debut on the 4th match day of the 2012/13 season in the 0-1 defeat against Vitória Setúbal.

On July 16, 2013 Djaniny terminated his contract with Benfica Lisbon and moved to Nacional Funchal , with Benfica still holding part of the transfer rights. After 29 league games and seven goals, he moved to the Mexican club Santos Laguna in June 2014 for around two million euros , becoming the first African player in the club's squad. In his fourth league game, Djaniny scored the first goal of the season for his new employer, but the game against Querétaro FC was lost 3-2.

National team

Djaniny was nominated for an international match for the Cape Verdean national team for the first time in 2011 . However, he made his debut on June 2, 2012 in the 2-1 loss to Sierra Leone . In his third international match he was able to look forward to his first international goal in a 3-1 win over Madagascar with the intermittent 2-0. In the second round of qualifying for the 2013 African Cup of Nations, Cape Verde created a sensation and defeated the favorites from Cameroon after a return leg. In the 2-0 first leg win, Djaniny was instrumental with a goal.

With this victory he qualified with his team at the finals of the Africa Cup and Djaniny was nominated for the final squad. In the final round, too, he and his team were convincing and came in second in a group with South Africa , Angola and Morocco . The quarter-final game against Ghana was lost 2-0.
