Andrei Alexejewitsch Stenin

Andrei Alexejewitsch Stenin ( Russian Андре́й Алексеевич Стенин ; born December 22, 1980 in Pechora ; † August 6, 2014 near Snizhne ) was a Russian journalist and photo correspondent for the Russian media company Rossija Sevodnja .

Life

From 2003 Stenin worked as a correspondent in the Society department for the daily newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta and then for the Internet newspaper Gazeta.ru . From 2008 he worked as a photo correspondent for the news agencies ITAR-TASS , RIA Novosti , Reuters , Associated Press and Agence France-Presse as well as for the newspaper Kommersant . From 2014 he worked as a special photo correspondent for Rossija Sevodnja. Stenin focused on photographic recordings of extraordinary events, mass unrest, military conflicts and court cases.

On August 5, 2014, he lost contact with him during a mission for photo coverage of the war in eastern Ukraine . The Russian government's suspicion that he was kidnapped or captured by Ukrainian armed forces was not confirmed by the Ukrainian government. Actions to support the photojournalist have been launched in Serbia , Russia, Argentina , Great Britain and Mexico . Representatives from the OSCE , the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and Reporters Without Borders expressed concern about Stenin's fate.

On September 3, 2014, it became known that Stenin was killed in a car on August 6, 2014 in Donetsk Oblast . On the way to the editorial office, he and a refugee convoy accompanied by six militiamen came under fire from the Ukrainian army, presumably their 79th airborne brigade, on the road between Snizhne and Dmitrovka.

Stenin was buried on September 5, 2014 in the Trojekurovo cemetery in Moscow .

The International Andrei Stenin Photo Competition was announced in his memory .
